"Christ’s glory and beauty are interiorly experienced and it is within you that he delights to be. he frequently visits the man who loves the interior life. He gently speaks to him, lovingly comforts him, gives him deep peace, and shares an intimacy beyond words.

If you do not know how to meditate on sublime and heavenly things, then find repose in Christ’s passion and gladly dwell in His sacred wounds. If you devoutly seek refuge in Jesus’ wounds- those priceless signs of our salvation- you will feel great comfort in time of trail and you will learn not to care when men despise you. Instead you will easily bear whatever slander vilification they cast upon you.

When Christ was among us in this world, He too was despised by men, and during his greatest need on the cross He was abandoned by friends and acquaintances and left to suffer insults alone. Christ chose to suffer and to be despised, and you dare to complain if someone insults you? Christ had his enemies and His slanderers, and you want everyone to be your friend and benefactor? How will your patience receive its crown if no trail ever comes your way? If you want to live a life free from all opposition, how will you be a friend of Christ? If you desire to reign with Christ then suffer with Christ and for Christ."
